Renfe has completed the purchase of 50% of the railway operator Leo Express. The Board of Directors of the Czech company, which has increased capital to bring in the Spanish shareholder, includes Manel Villalante, Renfe’s general director of Development and Strategy, Sonia Araujo, CEO of Renfe Viajeros, and Teresa Torres, General Economic-Financial Director of Renfe.

In its first meeting, the Board of Directors of Leo Express has appointed Manel Villalante as chairman and Czech Leoš Novotný as vice chairman.

The purchase of 50% of the capital of Leo Express is a strategic business opportunity for the Spanish operator, since it allows it to have activity in three more European countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland), in addition to having the resources and licenses to access the German market.

It also enables the Spanish operator to submit tenders for Public Service Obligations (PSO) in Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland, with capacity for local establishment, experience, team or references in those countries, which many times are essential to be able to compete.
