On June 1, 2015 the public transportation company Russian Railways (RZD) will introduce into commercial operation the first Talgo trains, offering their passengers a wide range of new services on the route between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, the city located approximately 400 km east of the capital of Russia.

Under the commercial name of "Swift" (Strizh) four of the seven train sets, ordered by RZD in 2011 and gradually delivered since last spring, will operate on this route.
These four Talgo train sets, which will start commercial service next month, incorporate a natural tilting system and were originally destined for the Moscow-Kiev rail line, but, due to the current political and military environment in the neighbouring Ukraine, this option was finally discarded.
The other three trains are night trains for the Moscow-Berlin route, additionally equipped with variable gauge axles which allow the trains to change from the broad Russian (1520 mm) track gauge to the standard European (1435 mm) track gauge and vice versa without stopping.
Application of the Talgo tilting system technology will enable the new rolling stock to reduce the Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod current journey time by 20 minutes. Therefore, the travel time of direct trains, which will provide two commercial services per day, will be 3 hours 35 minutes, while that of other trains with stops in Vladimir, Kovrov and Dzherzhinsk will be between 3 hours 45 minutes and 4 hours.
