Renfe purchases passenger railcars from Deutsche Bahn and leases them to Leo Express for 15 years

Renfe Alquiler de Material Ferroviario has concluded a strategic deal with Leo Express for the lease, for a period of 15 years, of RIC-technology passenger railcars approved for operation throughout Europe. The units were acquired by the Spanish operator from Deutsche Bahn (DB) last January.

This deal will enable Leo Express, a company in which Renfe Proyectos Internacionales is a shareholder, to solidify its position as a key operator in the open access and PSO tendered passenger market in Central Europe. Part of the fleet will be allocated to Leo Express’s recently awarded contract to operate the Ex36 public service route, which will connect Prague with Munich starting in December 2026. The railcars, acquired by Renfe Alquiler from DB in January, include first and second class vehicles with maximum capacity.
