CAF to modernise Helsinki Metro signalling system



Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd, Helsinki City Transport, and Länsimetro Ltd, the entities that own, manage and operate the Helsinki Metro, have awarded CAF a contract for the modernisation of the entire signalling infrastructure using the CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) system developed by the Spanish company, the OPTIO system.

The contract also includes the supply of the control centre and the upgrade of the existing fleet of M300 trains, previously supplied by CAF. This process will involve installing on-board signalling equipment compatible with the CBTC system in these vehicles. The contract is worth more than EUR 60 million.
