The acquisition of these new units will expand and upgrade Catalonia’s commuter (Rodalies) train fleet. This loan represents the first tranche of a €500 million financing package approved by the EIB.

The units will replace trains that have been running since 1990 and are now at the end of their service life. The new fleet will allow passenger capacity to increase significantly, including high-capacity units for suburban services in the Barcelona area as well as units for medium-distance or regional services.
