This partnership aims to provide comprehensive sustainable transport solutions, ranging from supplying rolling stock and fuelling infrastructures to green hydrogen production plants and renewable energy infrastructures.
The alliance will contribute to the promotion of solutions for railway lines and sections that are difficult to electrify and where diesel trains are used, replacing these trains without having to install catenaries or make any significant modifications. Another goal is to improve the renewable hydrogen value chain with the highest safety, technology and competition standards in the railway sector.
Projects
Tests are due to start in April this year for the new hydrogen train CAF has developed at its Zaragoza plant as part of the FCH2RAIL project. These trains will be powered by green hydrogen supplied by Iberdrola from its Barcelona plant.
Iberdrola already has two operational hydrogen-production plants in Spain. One of these, located in Barcelona, is the first commercial and renewable hydrogen plant in Spain and will be supplying the green hydrogen used for this project.
