Aragon asks for reopening of Canfranc-Pau line before 2030

The Government of Aragon has requested an institutional boost for the reopening of the Canfranc-Pau line as a rolling highway, especially from the French authorities so that they support the project in the French territory.

Aragon asks for reopening of Canfranc-Pau line before 2030

(25/04/2024)

During the 8th edition of the Canfraneus Conference, the Government of Aragon asked for the reopening of the Canfranc-Pau line to be a reality as soon as possible: ‘we are facing an incredible opportunity, on the Spanish side all the necessary actions are being carried out to improve the infrastructure and renew the track, as well as the implementation of telecommunication and signalling systems that allow the line to be fully interoperable in safety conditions’.

As for the French side, Aragon insisted on the need to involve the French Government in the recovery of the Canfranc-Pau section so that it speeds up its actions in the 33.2 kilometres that remain to be restored between Bedous and Canfranc. This support would join the joint work carried out, on a regional scale, by the Government of Aragon and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The Canfranc-Pau line is one of the European projects that has received funding through the Connecting Europe Facility and the Next Generation Funds.
