Agrupación Guinovart Obras y Servicios Hispania (G&O), OHL Group’s subsidiary specialised in rail infrastructures (see piece of news), is responsible for the construction of the section, which is 4.3 km long and has a maximum gradient of 12.5%.
In addition to track infrastructure and superstructure, rolling-stock sheds have been built and the urban environment and public spaces of the route have been adapted. Signalling of the section has been awarded to the Uteista consortium formed by Sice and Grupo Unión.
Pneumatic rolling
The Ayacucho Tram is a pneumatic rolling system which makes it possible for the 12 vehicles supplied by Translohr to cope with the high slopes of the route. The units have a capacity of 300 passengers and a commercial speed of 30 km/h.
The platform consists of a granular base over which two 45 cm concrete slabs are placed. Between these slabs is a RG28 central guide rail.
The new line will transport 90,000 people daily and is part of Medellin Metro’s master plan for the metropolitan region, which anticipates several different projects until 2030 in order to create a multimodal transport system.
