The train, cheapest transport option in Spain between the city and the airport

According to a study by the multimodal travel search engine Gopili, the train is the cheapest option in Spain to go from the airport to the city centre, while in other European airports the best option is the bus. Spain has the cheapest fares in Europe for rail connections between the airport and the city centre.

(29/06/2015)  The study by Gopili includes a European ranking of the airports by their transportation options to the city centre, which compares the price of travelling by train, bus and taxi. The research is based on the five most important urban airports in Spain and the ten most important airports in Europe in terms of number of passengers per year.

The cheapest option to get from the airport to the city centre is the train, except for the Valencia-Manises airport. The price of a single bus ticket is 1.45 euros, while the train ticket amounts to 3.90 euros.

In Madrid, the price of a commuter train ticket from Atocha station to Barajas Airport’s Terminal 4 is 2.60 euros, while in Barcelona a single train ticket costs 2.15 euros. In Malaga, a train ticket from the city centre to the airport costs 1.70 euros.

At these three airports, the price of the buses that cover the same route doubles that of the trains. In Alicante, the fifth Spanish airport analysed, there is not a rail option to travel to the airport.
