The winning consortium is formed by the ACS Group, through its subsidiaries Iridium (ACS Infrastructure Canada) and Dragados Canada, along with local companies Aecon, EllisDon and SNC-Lavalin.
The awarding includes the design, construction, funding and maintenance of the new 19-kilometre line, which will run through one of the main arteries of the city of Toronto, Eglinton Avenue.
The project includes 25 underground stations and ground-level stops along the route, as well as workshops and depots with a size of 22,500 square metres.
The contract involves the supply and integration of all the systems, including the signalling system and control of vehicles on the line, and the construction of complementary infrastructure for other entities and public administrations, mainly the Council of Toronto. Additionally, the ACS Group will be responsible for the integration and maintenance of the fleet of vehicles supplied by Bombardier.
The construction of the tunnels for the underground stretch has been put out to tender independently through two contracts, one of which was awarded in 2013 by Metrolinx to Dragados Canada, in joint venture with the Canadian construction group Aecon.
