(14/05/2015)  The King emphasised the importance of research and the boost the new centre will give to the development of new signalling and train control technologies.

He also highlighted the fact that the 120th anniversary of Siemens in Spain, which coincides with the opening of this centre, should be celebrated not only looking back but also with promising future prospects. The commitment to R&D&I in the railway field, in which Spain is already a global power, is a sign of trust and the best way to forge that future.

King Felipe VI also stressed the connection Siemens represents between “Marca España” (Spanish Trademark) and “Marca Alemania” (German Trademark), and he stated that Europe is also built from industrial development.

R&D&I centre

The new Railway Technologies Centre of Competence and R&D&I has 350 employees, the majority of them from Dimetronic, which was acquired by Siemens in 2013. The centre will receive an investment of €20 million a year.

From its headquarters located in Tres Cantos, Siemens will export Spanish technology to the five continents and strengthen the leadership of our country in that segment of activity. The R&D&I centre will design, test and develop signalling and train control systems and it will also train professionals in this field to use these technologies.

Out of the 350 employees, most of them are graduates in engineering (industrial, telecommunications, computer mainly), but there are also mathematicians and physicists. Around 200 people will work in research, development and innovation, while the rest will be in charge of project execution.
