The project involves 2,244 km of track with a planned investment of 15,000 million dollars. The new network will link Oman with United Arab Emirates in the north and with Yemen in the south, where the project for a first railway line which will connect with Oman on one side and with Saudi Arabia on the other is already underway.
The consortium will review the network’s preliminary designs which are being prepared by Italian engineering consultancy firm Italferr, from the Ferrovie dello Stato Group, and provide contract management and supervision services during the construction and commissioning phase.
It will also oversee the procurement of rolling stock and the tendering later this year for an operations maintenance contract.
