Engineering company Euroconsult Group has been awarded the supervision, with its Tunnelings technology, of tunnels from London’s Underground lines Circle Line and Hammersmith & City Line. These tunnels date back to 1864 and 1884 and were built from brick and metal rings.

Monitoring will be carried out with the Tunnelings technology, which was already used to inspect several tunnels of London’s metro system a few months ago. The monitoring of the tunnels will take place in four nights with a vehicle travelling at a speed of 40 kilometres per hour, and on which six laser cameras will perform a three-dimensional survey of the tunnel for possible damages or anomalies such as cracks, moisture, etc.
In addition to this speed, which is much higher than the 5 kilometres per hour of visual walk inspections, Tunnelings cameras fit the curved surface of the tunnel and can also inspect the condition of the rail track, making it possible to scan the infrastructure completely with an accuracy of one millimetre.
Two operators from London Underground and three technical specialists from Euroconsult Group will be involved in inspection work. Also, four people will process the data obtained from Tunnelings for two months before submitting results to London Underground’s managing company.
