China launches first direct cargo train to Madrid

(04/12/2014)  There are currently two connections with China: Beijing-Hamburg (operated by DB) and Chongqing-Duisburg (operated by Trans Eurasia Logistics, a joint venture between DB and the Russian RZD). DB Schenker is a key player in such long intercontinental routes, which started about six years ago and take 15 days to cover.

The new YXE container train or "Yixin'ou” (Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe) departed from the city of Yiwu, in the East-Central area of the People's Republic of China, near the coast. This city is a booming industrial hub specialised in consumer goods which has strong trade links with Spain.

The train, which carries 82 containers, will arrive in Madrid around the 10th of December after having covered 13,052 km and crossed Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany and France. Goods on the Yixin'ou will have to be transferred to different wagons at three points during the trip, at the Chinese-Kazakh, Russian-Polish and French-Spanish frontiers, to be precise.
