Talgo presents model of its commuter train project

Talgo used Innotrans 2014, the International Trade Fair for Transport Technology held in Berlin, to present the model of its project of commuter train, the first one designed by the Spanish construction company in this segment.

Talgo presents model of its commuter train project

(15/10/2014)  The new platform of commuter train, in line with what is usual in the firm’s vehicles, will be low floor at 550 mm height, which will considerably increase accessibility compared to other solutions. As a result, it will reduce stop times and improve operation.

In addition, this new platform applies Talgo’s technology of independent guided rolling wheelset, which increases the space available for passengers per linear metre of the train.

Talgo worked on the design of the train under the idea that length and therefore capacity of this future commuter train can be adjusted to the specific needs of each operator.

Technical characteristics

The new platform, which will have configurations for urban and regional services, will support up to 21 tonnes per axle and will be able to run on a track gauge of 1,435, 1,520 and 1,668 mm. The power supply will be 25 kV and 15 kV AC and 1.5 kV and 3 kV DC. The maximum operational speed will be 160 km/h, the maximum tractive effort 210 kN and the starting acceleration up to 1.2 m/s2.

A 4-coaches trainset that is 78 m in length, has a tare weight of 131.5 tonnes and an axle configuration of Bo’2’2’2’Bo’ will have a seating capacity of 212 in its regional version and 190 in urban configuration, while the standees capacity will be 250 and 320 respectively.
