The total contract is worth about €100 million and includes 14 EURO 4000, the most powerful diesel-electric locomotive manufactured in Europe. Initially, they will haul passengers and later possibly goods, according to the Israeli operator.
Added to this order are 15 EURO 3000 units for passenger service at speeds of up to 160 km/h. These are expected to be delivered as from September 2012. ISR has an option for more EURO 3000.
Israel Railways has opted for the EURO family developed by Vossloh España on account of its versatility, performance and efficiency. The decision was based on the recognition that these locomotives optimize rail transport because of their respect for the environment, design features, and innovative technology. In recent years, Vossloh España has shipped out altogether 59 locomotives to the Israeli railway company.
