With a length of 328 km, linking iron ore mines with port facilities at Warri, the line will be the first in the country to allow trains to travel at a speed up to 150 km/h using ETCS level 2 technology.
The signalling along the link will be based on electronic interlockings with automatic block sections and train detection with new track circuits and axle counters.
The contract was awarded by ZTE, a Chinese telecommunication company selected by the Nigerian Transport Ministry and the Nigerian Railway Corporation to start a project aiming to renew railway infrastructure in Nigeria.
