Tecnopraim has developed Readisc, a brake discs measuring tool to be implemented in the railway industry. The device has a laser capable of reading the wear of a metal surface area, thus making it possible to detect problems in the brake pads, or if the wear is not regular.

The tool is portable and capable of taking measures of the wear of the brake disc micrometrically and in less than twelve seconds. Readisc is able to take over two hundred measurements per battery load, and the data is sent to a portable device, smartphone or tablet.
The measurement is performed with the disc on the vehicle and the meter placed radially, in order to analyse the state of the entire disc. To measure the wear of a particular point of the disc, the meter is positioned so that the radius measurement passes over that point.
Capacity
The maximum diameter of the disc that can be measured is 160 mm, suitable for rail vehicles, and the maximum thickness of surface wear the tool can measure is nine millimetres.
The data is exported to a text file for storage in the memory card of a mobile phone or tablet, from which can be downloaded on any computer. Together with the data from the measurement are operator name, vehicle identification and the reference of the disc being measured.
