A consortium led by CAF is awarded Line 3 of Monterrey light rail system in Mexico



A consortium led by CAF has been awarded the contract to operate Line 3 of the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo Metrorrey, in the Mexican city of Monterrey, for a period of 20 years.

(15/09/2014)  The contract includes the supply of 22 trains and the provision of rolling stock related services over the 20 year term. The awarding operation is pending financial closure, which is expected to be forthcoming.

The Sistema de Transporte Colectivo Metrorrey is a light train system in the city of Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo León (Mexico), which has the third most densely populated metropolitan area in the country, after the Valley of Mexico and Guadalajara.

Two lines

The Metrorrey system currently consists of two lines with a total of 32 operational stations. Line 3 is currently under construction, spanning 7.5 km along eight stations. 84 vehicles are currently serving the Metrorrey system, 22 of which were supplied by CAF in a previous contract.
