The contract awarded by the Directorate General for Railway Transport of the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation amounts to 575 million euros and the section is, both in length and in budget, the most important of the future Mexico City-Toluca Railway.
The double-track railway is designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h, with 32 km of its total 36.15 kilometres built in viaduct, and it will have four elevated stations of 200 m in length.
The project is completed with two additional sections: the 4.6 km bi-tube tunnel of La Marquesa, and the last section arriving in Mexico City, La Marquesa-Observatorio Station, which is 17.3 km in length.
