CAF trains in service in Saudi Arabia



Saudi Railway Company (SAR) has started to provide rail services with trains supplied by CAF on the Riyadh-Al Qassim section of the North-South Railway, with an intermediate stop at Majmaah.

The trains comprise two power cars and nine passenger coaches, and have a capacity of 444 seats (120 in business class, 322 in economy class and two wheelchair spaces). In addition, the trains have family sections, prayer areas and a restaurant car. All coaches are equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi.

In the future there will be night services including sleeping cars, a restaurant car, and car carrier wagons. Each night train will seat 377 passengers, with 42 in business class, 238 in economy class, and one wheelchair space; plus 92 berths in 24 cabins, and capacity to carry 16 cars. These night trains will also have family sections, prayer areas, Wi-Fi and a similar information system to the day trains.

Both types of trains (day and night trains) have been designed by CAF to operate in temperatures of up to 55ºC during the day and 5ºC during the night.
