The new Metropolis units will run on line 1 of Peru’s capital city’s metro network. This line has already been operated by 19 trainsets since 2011, which now thanks to this contract will receive an extra car to lengthen their composition from five cars to six.
The delivery of the new 139 Metropolis cars, which will be manufactured at Alstom’s factory in Santa Perpetua de Mogoda (Barcelona), is scheduled to be completed by 2019 and will more than double the line’s current transportation capacity, going from 20,000 passengers per hour to 48,000.
Lima Metro’s line 1 is 34 km long and comprises 26 stations. It crosses the city from South Villa El Salvador to North San Juan de Lurigancho. The ridership, which has been growing ever since the line opened in 2011, is of about 320,000 per day.
