An ambitious plan of expansion and modernisation of public transport infrastructure has been launched in Malaysia, including relief roads and track electrification, rolling stock investments, light rail line extensions and, above all, a master plan for the construction of three new light metro lines and a monorail in the city of Putrajaya. The construction of a high-speed line between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore is planned in the medium and long term.

In Brazil the railway has become the main investment bet within the State Transport Program (Programa Estatal de Transporte, PET), which plans to build 3,350 kilometres of new lines for passenger transport including one high-speed line, with the aim of improving the national network for the big sport events Brazil is going to host, such as the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. Freight connections will also be strengthened with more than 14,500 additional kilometres.
