(16/11/2012)  The signing took place during King Juan Carlos’ official trip to India with the ministers for Public Works, Foreign Affairs, Industry, Defence and a delegation of Spanish business leaders.

In the field of railways, the Spanish Minister for Public Works, Ana Pastor, informed the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, that Spain's high-speed network has become the second-largest in the world and that Spanish companies have gained unique experience and made themselves a global benchmark in the sector.

The agreement will provide new ways to cooperate on development in the field of railway technology and will work on such areas as high-speed railway, improving the speed of passenger trains on existing lines, the modernisation of rolling stock, the development of intermodal transport and passenger stations, among other things.

In order for this cooperation to materialise, the memorandum establishes the need to share technical knowledge and documentation, to have a delegation of qualified specialists, experts and technicians, and to undertake pilot schemes or joint research or study projects, among other things. It was agreed to create a working group between the two countries to work on implementing the agreement.
