The kick-off and official launch of the European Project ModAir, in whose consortium the Spanish Railways Foundation (FFE) participates, was recently held at the headquarters of EADS (France).
The ModAir project, granted in the fifth call of the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission, aims at setting up an Intermodal Forum for air, high speed rail and urban transport seeking to improve intermodality for passengers in European airports.
During its twenty months duration, the ModAir project will elaborate an overview of the current state of intermodality in European airports, deliver a roadmap for future research in this field and provide the European Commission with a structured group of experts able to advise on the best ways of implementing the connectivity of airports with other transport modes.
Project Consortium
The consortium is integrated by a total of six partners from several European countries: France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Spain; and led by EADS, which is a global leader in Aerospace, Defence & Security. Airports of Paris (ADP), which owns and operates the three major airports in the Paris area, is another important project partner.
AD Cuenta is an aerospace consultancy partner providing advice on strategic aerospace issues. Advanced Logistics Group (ALG) is a Spanish consultancy (belonging to the INDRA group) specialized in the study, design and management of transportation and logistics projects, with particularly wide experience in the aviation sector and its landside intermodal transportation links.
The European Intermodal Association (EIA) is a European non-governmental organization with the objective of improving the cooperation of the different transport modes of the logistics chain, having more than 90 members across Europe.
Finally, the Spanish Railways Foundation (FFE) participates coordinating the activities involved on the study of the preferences and requirements of the intermodal passenger and contributes to the "mapping" of the connections between airports and high speed rail networks.
Project Structure
The ModAir project is organized in five work packages, whose interrelations are reflected in the following graphic:
