Following a month of sea voyage from the port of Bilbao, the vehicles will begin the testing period. During this year the remaining 35 trains that will run on lines 3 and 6 of the Santiago Metro network will arrive in Chile.

The manufacture of this new rolling stock, 22 units for line 3 and 15 units for line 6 to operate on what is the greatest extension of Chilean capital city´s metro network, started at CAF’s plant in Beasain in November 2014. The assembly of the first train finished in July 2015 and today there are already 10 complete units that have gone through a first period of static and dynamic tests at the factory.

The trains

The new trains, incorporating a system of automatic driving by CBTC, comprise five cars and are capable of carrying 1,285 passengers. They are equipped with air conditioning, information screens, security cameras, intercoms, smoke detectors and LED lighting; and they can reach a speed of 80 km/h.

These vehicles, unlike the ones that make up the existing fleet of Santiago Metro which do it via a third rail, will take the power from the catenary and will include a device for frontal evacuation through a folding ramp in both end cars.
