The 11-tonne mock-up, which is built in wood and reinforced with a load-bearing metallic structure, is 15 m long (about one third the length of the production vehicle), 3.6 m high and 2.65 m wide.
The mock-up will be used by operator Luxtram’s teams to finalise the design regarding passenger accessibility, interior layout and ergonomics of the cab, and also the technical equipment.
The first LRV is due to be delivered at the beginning of 2017 in order to start testing, and the line is expected to open in the second half of 2017.

The contract awarded to CAF for an amount of 83 million euros includes the supply of 21 Urbos LRVs with a maximum capacity of 450 passengers and a specific design for their integration into the urban environment as well as for the preservation of the city’s historic and contemporary architecture. In the Kirchberg area the vehicles will run on embedded track on a grass-covered platform, while in the city centre they will operate without catenary thanks to energy storage systems using supercapacitors.
