Alstom’s site in Barcelona to manufacture 22 tramways for Nottingham



Alstom industrial site in Santa Perpetua de Mogoda (Barcelona) will be in charge of manufacturing and servicing the new trams which will circulate in the British city of Nottingham from 2014.

(30/03/2012)  The contract is part of a public-private collaboration project for a railway awarding that also includes the British operator Keolis and the French group Vinci, responsible for the civil construction.

22 Citadis model trams will be in total manufactured and exported from the Barcelona plant. Each unit will be 32.6 metres long with 57 seats and will be able to carry 200 passengers. 90% of the production of the Alstom Transport site in Santa Perpetua is currently earmarked for export. The construction of Nottingham’s tramway cars means that the plant will be at full capacity for the next 2 years.

Alstom España industrial site in Santa Perpetua has manufactured all types of Alstom trains running in Spain as well as in more than a dozen cities around the world. It has produced the trains which are currently operated on the Madrid-Seville high speed line, regional shuttles (medium distance trains which use the AVE tracks and reach up to 250 km/h), half of the modern Civia commuter units, the driverless metro in Barcelona and the trams which run in Madrid, Jaen, Tenerife, Barcelona and Murcia.border=1

With regard to the foreign market, Barcelona site has manufactured coaches for the London and Washington metros, as well as trams for Rabat (Morocco), Oran and Constantine (Algeria). During this year, the Santa Perpetua site will also supply all the metro coaches for Santo Domingo underground network (15 trains and 45 cars with the possibility of eventually adding 6 trains and 18 cars), Line 1 of Lima Metro (19 trains made of 5 cars) and Line 1 of Panama Metro (19 Metropolis train sets made of 3 cars with the possibility of including 4 car and 5 car compositions in the future).
