Romanian Railways (CFR) have awarded FCC Construcción, in a joint venture with Alpine (its Austrian subsidiary), Azvi and the local company Straco, the contract to refurbish and upgrade the Atel–Micăsasa section in Romania.

This contract, worth 218 million euros, is the second one awarded to the company to refurbish the Simeria-Braşov railway and involves 29.6 km of double-track electrified line, which will guarantee a speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for goods trains.
The contract includes the execution of 10.5 km of bypasses, remodelling of two passenger stations and three unstaffed stations, and construction of four metal truss viaducts, two with spans of 280 metres and the other two measuring 142.2 metres and 94.8 metres.
Additionally, the contract includes a complete overhaul of the electrification system, the power supply, signalling and telecommunications in accordance with European standards, as well as work on existing stations on the line.
European corridor
This section of railway is part of Pan-European Transport Corridor IV and works are co-financed by the European Union. The project will take 36 months, with a warranty period of 24 months following completion.
This is FCC Group's second railway infrastructure refurbishment contract on Corridor IV this year.
